WHAT IS A DERMAROLLER?
The Dermaroller is a cylindrical shaped drum studded with very fine needles. It is a precision engineered, hand-held medical device that helps combat the appearance of scars, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, stretch marks, cellulite and even hair loss. Micro skin needling encourages collagen and elastin production within the skin and helps to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections.
HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?
In order for our skin to have a smooth and healthy glow, it must continually be replenished with new cells.
The Derma Roller System renews your skin cells from the inside out by using Collagen Induction Therapy. This is a process where the dermarollers’ fine medical-grade needles are rolled over your skin to cause pores in your skin to open temporarily. While your pores are opened, it triggers your body’s natural healing process to heal the pores thereby stimulating collagen and elastin production. The production of collagen and elastin helps to thicken the skin, smooth away fine lines and wrinkles and rid the skin of hyperpigmentation.
When the dermaroller is applied simualtaneously with the application of nourishing creams, your skins absorption of vitamins, enzymes, lipids and other nourishing ingredients are greatly enhanced. In approximately one to two hours after the application of the dermaroller, these micro-channels fully close through the body’s natural healing process, providing just enough time for new collagen structures to form within the skin’s lower layers, but short enough recovery time to ensure the resumption of your normal schedule. By continuously triggering the body’s natural healing process this way, your skin constantly stimulates collagen and elastin production needed to help restore and remodel your skin on a cosmetic level.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DERMAROLLER AND OTHER SKIN REJUVENATION TECHNIQUES?
In contrast to all abrasive techniques like Lasers and Fractional Laser treatments, the Dermaroller stimulates new tissue formation – it acts constructively and the skin remains intact. The skin does not get damaged (unlike other needling devices) and therefore will not go into a wound healing response. The Dermaroller significantly improves atrophic scars & improves skin texture.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
For Collagen Induction Therapy we recommend to start with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 6 to 8 weeks between treatments. For Scar Reduction Therapy an average of 3 to 5 treatments are recommended, with an improvement of 70-80%.
However, there will be a significant improvement in the appearance of the skin following just one treatment of derma roller. Your skin will be assessed during consultation and we will advise you as to what we recommends on an individual basis.

Each column will penetrate into the dermis of the skin and will be approximately 0.1mm in width. The column will close rapidly enabling the skin to recover quickly – often in the same day.
The skin will be thoroughly cleaned and a topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to numb the skin making the procedure comfortable.
CAN THE DERMAROLLER BE PERFORMED ON ANY SKIN COLOUR?
Since Dermaroller does not use thermal heat (unlike IPL & Lasers) it is safe to use on all skin types and all skin colours. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
FOLLOWING YOUR DERMAROLLER TREATMENT
Immediately after your Genuine Dermaroller Therapy you will look as though you have moderate sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day.
The practitioner may well apply special cream after the procedure to help soothe and calm the skin, you will also be provided adequate aftercare products to continue to use until the redness has subsided.
Use tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and dry gently, always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area. It is also recommended that make up is not applied for 12 hours after the procedure.
If you will be in daylight immediately after the procedure, apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with a SPF50.
